    The Advisory Committee on Civil Jury Instructions has approved for posting for public comment proposed revisions and new instructions. The committee is very interested in your input.

    The proposed changes and additions are available for viewing on the internet at http://www.courts.ca.gov/policyadmin-invitationstocomment.htm . Only these currently proposed changes and additions are being submitted for comment at this time. We will gladly accept other comments, but the committee will not be able to consider them until the next release cycle.

    Our preferred way of receiving your comments is in a Word file attached to an e-mail sent to civiljuryinstructions@jud.ca.gov. However, you may also respond online. And we have also posted a comment form that you may use to comment on individual instruction or groups of instructions. Please do not comment by Reply All to this e-mail.

    The deadline for receiving comments is Tuesday, March 14, at 5:00 p.m.

    All comments will be reviewed by the advisory committee, which will make recommendations to the Judicial Council's Rules Committee and then to the full council. Comments received will become part of the public record of the council's action.

    DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

    UC Legal - Office of General Counsel (UCL - OGC) delivers ethical, timely, efficient and high quality legal services to the University of California ten campuses, six medical centers, and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, as well as to the Board of Regents, the President, the Chancellors and other officers of the University. Its services include prosecuting and defending litigation, drafting and negotiating agreements, providing advice, counsel and interpretation of laws, regulations and policies, and assisting with development of effective compliance and risk mitigation strategies to facilitate the University's complex operations. The Business, Transactions, and Innovation (BTI) practice group handles a broad range of business transactions including, but not limited to, transactions involving innovative research, joint ventures, collaborations, international activities, public finance, real estate, land use, construction, investments, intellectual property, laboratory affairs, energy, tax-exempt organizations, charitable giving, trusts and estates, and institutional advancement.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    This position provides substantial expertise in the area of nonprofit organizations and charitable giving matters, including: tax-exempt org, nonprofit corporate and charitable trust law compliance and reporting; entity structuring and transactions (i.e., forming and managing subsidiaries and related organizations, establishing relationships with affiliates, structuring joint ventures, and exploring and carrying out mergers and acquisitions); political intervention and lobbying; nonprofit corporate governance; unrelated business income; and endowments and complex charitable gifts. Some experience with planned giving desired but not required.

    Responsibilities require substantial knowledge of laws, regulations and policies applicable to tax-exempt, nonprofit and charitable organizations, as well as Regents bylaws, policies, and guidelines. Drafts, reviews, and revises a variety of legal instruments involving the University's interests.

    All team members are expected to actively participate in initiatives to promote diversity, equity, and/or inclusion, whether at UC or in the community.

     • Provides substantial high-quality, timely, and solution-oriented expertise within the University in the nonprofit organizations and charitable giving specialty practice area and independently handles a full range of legal matters and projects, including those of the highest complexity and significant importance and impact to the University.

     • Interprets complex facts and the law in areas of moderate to high ambiguity.

     • Establishes effective relationships with key internal and external constituencies.

     • Recognizes strategic needs of organization and proactively builds relationships with appropriate stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
